The HSPF watershed model was updated for the time period of January 2011 to December 2016 to represent the current loadings from tributary streams and direct runoff into the Fox River. The instream QUAL2k model of the Fox River mainstem was updated to a dynamic version QUAL2kw, and simulation of the daily swings in dissolved oxygen (DO) levels were improved to better match the values measured in the river during the summer months. The improvement in the model’s ability to simulate the daily variation in DO is because of its dynamic nature, updated model inputs and the model being calibrated to the most accurate chlorophyll-a
concentrations.
